One thing you can be sure of when doing business on the internet is that the more traffic your blog or website receives, the more likely you are to be successful.
Many marketers and other internet businesses therefore have increasing traffic to their website as one of their top priorities.
While it might seem like a daunting task, there are actually some easy ways to increase your website‘s traffic on a consistent basis.
Buying traffic is certainly one way to increase the number of visitors to your website, and you can do this through pay per click ad campaigns on Google (its AdWords service remains the industry leader) or other types of advertising on various ad and publisher networks.
While this is an easy path to more traffic, it does have a number of downsides.
First, the only way to sustain the increased traffic is to continue spending money and many internet-based businesses simply don’t have the available cash.
In addition, some advertisers have found that the quality of the traffic that they buy is not always as good as they might hope.
Getting a thousand new visitors to your website isn’t worth very much if none of them buy anything or sign up for your mailing list.
Thankfully you can increase your traffic without having to spend any money.
The first way to improve your traffic is simply to continue updating your blog or website with quality content on a regular basis.
If you are not publishing a new article or blog post at least once a week (and mind you this is at a minimum), then you aren’t going to attract the same degree of attention from Google and the other search engines.
In addition, unless you are publishing new information frequently enough it makes it less likely that your visitors will come back to your website again.
Another way to improve traffic to your website is to become active on other websites that are related to your line of business.
The easiest way is to comment on the blog posts and articles that appear on those other websites.
If you do this well say by posting substantive comments that relate directly to the article, rather than something like – “Great article! Please visit my blog here: [LINK]”.
Then visitors to those other websites will eventually recognize you as something of an expert in the area and will more than likely visit your site.
When you are identifying the other websites that you might want to become active on try to focus on those that allow you to comment using a Facebook, Disqus, Google+ or similar accounts.
That way if someone is interested in learning more about you, they can simply click your picture or name and view your Facebook profile, Google+ profile or whatever account you’re using and easily see the website or business you are connected with.
In fact, developing yourself and your professional identity on the internet is likely to be one of the easiest, as well as one of the most successful, long-term ways to increase traffic to your business.
Keep in mind that your business may change and develop over time so building traffic exclusively to a single website might not be as valuable as getting people to follow you.
If they follow you then when you develop your next business you’ll already have a built-in audience and large amount of traffic.
Have an awesome day!
